The Finished Amplifier

To finish the front off I needed to design a simple but effective speaker cover. Using the blue acrylic I cut a circle to the size of the 'O' and cut out some smaller holes to allow the sound to come through.

You can see here the design I came up with in Corel. I used the mirror features to create the pattern.

Once the sanding was done I took the amplifier to the spray booth and applied the paint. It required plastic primer, and three coats of gloss paint.  It was sprayed in two halves, the main body with the front attached and the back section. The access plate to the battery required pillar drilling to create tow small holes where the screws would hold it in place.

In evaluation I'm pleased with the design and the effects of the l.e.d.'s. It has a certain wow factor when the lights are on.  The sound is reasonable for a 40mm speaker but does distort if it is too loud.  I'm pleased that I have a small space behind the speaker even with the battery pack. I do feel however that because of the battery pack being bigger there is less air movement so this could be impeding the sound quality.

I am happy with the overall prototype and can realise that this could be mass produced but with a plastic body, done with a vacuum form process.

Here is the final product and some other shots.  I also attempted to show what the Amplifier would look like in Pro Engineer.
